Burma coup resistance notes August 27, 2022
Ethnic regions-------------------
In Kawthoolei Mutraw District (Hpapun township on Burmese maps), junta troops trespassed into the area of Palako on Aug. 25, provoking a battle with Karen army troops who control the area. Seven junta troops were killed and 9 wounded. In the same district, indiscriminate junta and BGF mortar fire at villages along the Kamamaung-Papun road damaged people’s homes and killed a woman on Aug. 23. (Khit Thit Media)
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
In Myaing township of Magway Region, 180 junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee thugs are attacking and burning Wetaung village, causing 8 nearby villages to flee for safety.
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
In Sagaing Region, a PDF drone-bombed a junta admin office in Myinmu township yesterday, killing 3 soldiers on guard duty there and a woman doing business there. (People's Spring)
In Mandalay Region, a PDF blew up a truck carrying junta troops in Wundwin township today. The truck landed on its side, and 4 junta troops died and 4 were “screaming at the hospital.”
In Magway Region, the Yaw Defense force penetrated into Htilin town on Aug. 25 where it fired locally-made mortars at the junta police barracks, killing one officer and wounding 3 others. The PDFs and ethnic armies are now carrying their attacks into the main towns of the townships.
In Myeik, a volunteer for an organization that provided free funerals for the poor was murdered by the junta when troops ran him down on his motorcycle with a vehicle last week; the circumstances were just made clear. Three days ago, also in Myeik, junta police shot 3 young men returning from work on the same motorcycle, killing 2 of them. A stray bullet from that shooting also killed an unrelated bystander along the street. (Khit Thit Media)
Urban warfare------------------
In Yangon Region, a PDF bombed junta troops in Kunchankone township today, causing a number of injuries. A junta admin office in Hlaingthaya township was attacked with gunfire early this morning. Yesterday another urban PDF blew up a junta admin office in North Okalappa township, killing 4 junta staff. Other bombs exploded in Thaketa, Hlaing, Dagon Port, and Thingangyun townships yesterday. A junta control gate in Hmawbi township was bombed yesterday; a large air base is located there. (People's Spring)
In the military capital of Naypyitaw, an urban PDF coalition bombed a courthouse in Dackina district on Aug. 24, killing a junta policeman and wounding 2 others. An urban guerrilla member was injured by accident during the attack. The resistance is striking in the very heart of regime power. (Khit Thit Media)
Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM)-------------------
The Burma currency, the kyat, continues its free fall, reaching 3,400 to the US dollar today, with analysts predicting it will reach at least 5,000:1 soon. At the time of the coup it was 1,300:1. It is difficult to find anyone willing to buy kyats with any foreign currency. Not understanding that its forced currency controls and money printing are the cause of the monetary disaster, the regime is responding with even more restrictions. It still insists that the kyat be traded at a rate of 2,100 to the US dollar, and is threatening private gold and currency traders, including banks, to try to force them to bring down the gold price and exchange rate.
