Burma coup resistance notes December 27, 2022
Karen & Kachin armies and People's Defense Forces inflict damage and hold the line against the terrorist militia
Ethnic regions-------------------
The battle of Kaw T’Ree that began with a Karen army attack on Dec. 16 continues today in Dooplaya District, Kawthoolei (Kawkareik on Burmese maps). There is intense fighting near Mi Ga Thein Kone village, and Karen army forces continue to cut the Asia Highway between Kaw T’Ree and Myawaddy, and traffic is forced to use a circuitous dirt road through the mountains instead. To compensate for its losses, the junta has sent more troops and Russian-supplied helicopter gunships. Indiscriminate junta mortar fire into civilian areas killed a monk and wounded 3 others and a student yesterday. In Lay Kay Kaw of Myawaddy township, there is mortar and gunfire for the first time since the junta recaptured the Myawaddy-Waw Lay road from the Karen army in November. (People's Spring, Mizzima, Khit Thit Media)
A PDF attack killed 2 junta police at the Dawei deep water port police station on Dec. 24. in Beit-Tavoy District of Kawthoolei (Tanintharyi Region on Burmese maps).
A column of 170 junta troops entered Aleisayt village of Indaw township, northern Sagaing Region today and was ambushed by the Kachin army and allied PDFs. Junta casualties were apparently heavy, because the regime sent jets to bomb the area.
The Mon State Monsters PDF in Ye township continued its sporadic attacks on junta targets this morning, killing 2 troops aboard a truck passing through Kyaung village. (Than Lwin Khet News)
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
In Depayin township of Sagaing Region, terrorist troops burned down Jei and Tot Pagoda villages last night and kidnapped 20 women. A PDF tried to put up a defense but was overwhelmed. Villagers are now sleeping in the bush in wintertime and weren’t able to take anything when the attack caught them by surprise. It isn’t known what the terrorists are doing with the captured women. (Mizzima, Khit Thit Media)
Junta/Pyu Saw Htee terrorists burned Zee Taw village in Pauk township, Magway Region yesterday. One of the homes destroyed was that of a junta navy officer’s family. Other troops attacked and burned Thedawlay village of Wundwin township in Mandalay Region the night of Dec. 25. (Khit Thit Media)
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
Four junta supply ships in the Chindwin River in Sagaing Region took evasive measures to avoid PDF fire from the banks on Dec. 24 and ran aground. For the next 2 days PDFs continued to fire on the 4 stranded boats. They say they have caused casualties, but figures aren’t known. The junta is using boats because road transport has become so dangerous due to PDF roadside bombs. (People's Spring)
A PDF bombed a junta convoy that was attempting to “sneak out” of Sagaing township toward Monywa in the dead of night hidden in civilian vehicles. Roadside bombs blew out the glass in an ambulance that had been stolen by the junta and used as a troop transport. The van was full of troops, but casualties aren’t known. This occurred on the Monywa-Mandalay road in Myinmu township, where many roadside bomb attacks have occurred lately. (Mizzima)
A PDF used drone bombs to injure and possibly kill 10 Pyu Saw Htee terrorists who were stealing farmers’ paddy (rice) crops yesterday in Ywatha village of Shwebo township. (People's Spring) Sagaing Region PDFs have been trying to protect crops from theft by Pyu Saw Htees who have driven villagers away from their fields through terrorist attacks.
A PDF coalition attacked a Pyu Saw Htee terrorist camp at Kyaw village in Minkin township yesterday, killing 14 of the enemy and seizing some weapons and military equipment. Also yesterday, a PDF in Depayin township detonated roadside bombs beside a junta foot column, killing 3 troops and wounding others. (Khit Thit Media)
In Magway Region, a PDF blew up a van carrying wounded troops from a battle in Paungkwe on the way to Pakokku hospital, Myaing township yesterday, killing 6 troops and wounding 2 more. (Khit Thit Media) During fighting in Paungkwe on Dec. 23, 2 PDF soldiers and 5 civilians were killed by the junta. (People's Spring)
In Mandalay Region, a PDF in Maddaya township blasted and disabled a junta vehicle on Dec. 25; it was traveling with one other vehicle. The casualty toll isn’t known. In Kyaukse town, a PDF fired grenades at 5 troops guarding a camp on the grounds of Kyaukse University yesterday, killing 2 of the guards. (Khit Thit Media)
The junta abducted 4 youths from Pakokku who had traveled to Doo Tha Htoo District of Kawthoolei (Thaton township on Burmese maps) to receive training on drone warfare. They were pulled off a passenger bus on the way north from Yangon. (Myaelatt Athan) They are likely to be tortured for information and then murdered.
Urban warfare------------------
In Mandalay, an urban PDF bombed a guard bunker in front of a junta-owned Myawaddy Bank branch in Pyijidagon township yesterday, causing some injuries.
Political and economic-------------------
In an effort to compile voter lists for its planned fake elections in August, the junta is using deceitful tactics, such as signing up everyone who supports or is assisted by local charities. Medical ambulance teams are required to report anyone they help to the junta, and the junta has been putting all those names on voter lists. In general, citizens have avoided being included in the phony election process whenever possible. (Khit Thit Media)
