Junta invasion defeated in Ta'ang with massive casualties; Canada becomes first country to sanction jet fuel used in airstrikes on civilians.
Reports are coming in of a major military disaster for the junta at the hands of the Ta’ang ethnic army (TNLA) over the past week in mountainous Namsan township of northern Shan State. 200 troops were air-dropped by helicopters on Dec. 7. There are photos of 47 dead soldiers, and the TNLA says it captured 24. Those air-dropped troops were surrounded and could not be rescued. In desperation, the junta launched 40 air strikes using jets and helicopters, and there is a report that 2 helicopters were hit and damaged by TNLA fire on Dec. 10 & 11. For the past 2 days the ground fighting died down and there were only airstrikes. The TNLA captured many weapons, but details aren’t out yet. Thousands of residents have fled Kone Tha and another village to Namsan town for safety. Airstrikes destroyed a large monastery and a school along with homes.
