Burma coup resistance notes December 11, 2022
European parliament officially recognizes National Unity Government as Burma's legitimate authority
In a diplomatic breakthrough, the European Union parliament has officially recognized the National Unity Government as the legitimate government of Burma. (People's Spring, Ayeyarwaddy Times) This is the NUG's first official recognition by a foreign country or group of nations, and paves the way for recognition by other countries and organizations, especially member countries of the EU. It also eventually exposes governments in countries like India and Thailand that do business with the illegal Burma military regime.
Ethnic regions-------------------
The junta carried out 11 jet and helicopter airstrikes yesterday in Kone Tha and Hooman villages of Namsan township of mountainous rural northern Shan State. (People's Spring) This is an indication that junta ground troops are struggling against the Ta’ang ethnic army (TNLA), but details of the progress of the battle aren’t available yet.
The Karen army announced that it blew up a 3-vehicle junta convoy on the Yangon-Mawlamyaing highway in Doo Tha Htoo District of Kawthoolei (Bilin township on Burmese maps). A military vehicle was destroyed. (Salween Press)
In Mon State, unknown assailants assassinated 2 junta police yesterday in Zinjait village of Paung township. One of them had been extorting money from travelers at a checkpoint and causing the capture of Revolution fighters. (Ayeyarwaddy Times)
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
Data for Myanmar published statistics on the destruction of homes by the junta. From Feb. 21, 2021 (the coup) to Nov. 30, 2022, 38,300 homes are known to have been burned or bulldozed by the junta, which corresponds roughly to 200,000 homeless individuals. 72% of the lost homes are in Sagaing Region, followed by 20% in Magway Region. (People's Spring) Urban areas are likely to rise as a proportion of destroyed homes as the junta steals the land of entire neighborhoods and bulldozes the houses, temples, and shops.
Today troops are burning Kyaukpyantha, Pepinchaung, and Kukon Kone villages in Kawline township of Sagaing Region. Two days ago Dec. 9, troops shot 5 young men and dumped their bodies by the road.

In Monywa township, 150 troops stole a private boat on the Chindwin River and drove it to Monywa town, after they had been terrorizing villages. A PDF detonated aquatic mines near the boat, but damage and casualties aren’t clear from a video provided. (Myaelatt Athan)
In Kantbalu township, PDFs spent 3 days attacking 150 Pyu Saw Htee terrorists led by extremist monk U Wathawa, who were illegally cutting timber to raise money for the junta. On Dec. 7 PDFs set off mines, causing a number casualties, though no figures are given. Junta troops then retaliated against nearby Lamhman, Wetpote, and Nyaungkway villages. The terrorists were bombed again the next 2 days, causing more casualties. Then yesterday, about 300 junta troops were illegally cutting the forest to steal teak logs when PDFs fired on them with mortars and small arms. Dead troops were removed and others fled.

In Hlaingthaya township, another urban PDF bombed police staff quarters yesterday.
