Burma coup resistance notes December 23, 2022
Junta getting wailed on by the Kokang & Karen armies; the terrorists murder more civilians; warm clothing for refugees banned.
Ethnic regions-------------------
A battle began in Mongko area of northeastern Shan State 2 days ago Dec. 21 when 80 junta troops invaded the area and were met by the ethnic Kokang army (MNDAA). There is fierce fighting, and a Kokang soldier was killed; junta casualties aren’t known yet, but they must be significant because the Kokang collected quite a few junta rifles, mortar rounds and launchers, grenades, and rifle bullets from dead troops. Junta troops fired mortars into civilian villages. As of today the battle is still not over. (Khit Thit Media)
The battle in Kaw T’Ree (Kawkareik on Burmese maps) in Dooplaya District of Kawthoolei that began Dec. 16 is still ongoing, with Karen forces having cut off the Asia Highway, the main trade link between Burma and Thailand, and also the junta’s main supply route for its occupation forces in the border area of Kawthoolei. Fighting centers on Kaw Nwe at the eastern edge of Kaw T’Ree town on the Asia Highway. The junta is bombing daily with Russian-supplied jets, while the Karen are using drone bombs and gunfire. As of today at least 10 junta troops are critically wounded or already dead, including an officer. (The Irrawaddy, Ayeyarwaddy Times)
The Angry Birds drone PDF dropped bombs on a police barracks at Chaunghnitkwa in Dooplaya District of Kawthoolei (Kyaikmaraw township on Burmese maps), killing 4, including 3 men, and wounding others over the past 2 days. Angry Birds has also been bombing junta targets in Kyainseikgyi township. (Mizzima)
Careless junta mortar fire into civilian communities badly wounded a 17-year-old girl yesterday in Tanintharyi township of Beit-Tavoy District of Kawthoolei (Tanintharyi Region on Burmese maps). It was so serious that she was transported to a hospital in Yangon today, but she died along the way. (Mizzima)
The rogue regime’s barbarity has already resulted in bans on the delivery of food and health care to refugees fleeing its violence. Now in Beit-Tavoy District it is banning the provision of blankets and warm clothing during this cold season in the mountains. (Karen Information Center) As always, the regime’s intent is not merely to intimidate or displace its victims, but to maximize mortality among civilians from its terrorist attacks.
In increasingly restive Mon State, a local junta administrator was assassinated yesterday in Ye town. (Than Lwin Times)
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
Troops burned 5 villages in the Mothauk area of Sagaing township in Sagaing Region on Dec. 21. They also murdered a civilian and kidnapped several others. (People's Spring)
After troops burned down Gabalaw village of Kantbalu township on Dec. 17, including a clinic and a monastery, 5 residents were missing, kidnapped by the terrorists to use as human shields. Three have now been found murdered, one tortured to death and 2 burned alive. Two women are still missing.
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
Update on the Dec. 21 PDF attack on the junta police barracks in Palaw town, Beit-Tavoy District of Kawthoolei (Tanintharyi Region on Burmese maps): Three junta troops were killed; troops fired outward indiscriminately, killing 2 civilians and seriously wounding 2 others. (Mizzima)
Update on the large battle in Kani township, Sagaing Region 2 days ago: 35 junta troops died, as did 2 PDF soldiers; 6 PDF soldiers were wounded and 1 is missing. Again, 150 troops came up the Chindwin River bank to stop PDFs firing on junta supply boats, but they were attacked by a multi-PDF coalition in Mutaw village. The PDFs captured ammunition and rockets. (Mizzima, The Irrawaddy)
In Magway Region, PDFs have been attacking the Tawpu Pyu Saw Htee terrorist camp daily; yesterday they wounded some of the terrorists during a ground attack, and 2 PDF soldiers were also wounded; other days the PDFs use rockets and mortars, or drone bombs. (People's Spring) The purpose of these attacks is to keep the Pyu Saw Htee on the defensive so they don’t attack civilian villages.
A junta policeman defected to a local PDF with full weapons in Gangaw township of Magway Region, and was given safety and a financial reward. (People's Spring)
Five PDF members were driving a car to plant large roadside bombs yesterday in Yesagyo township when they were ambushed by junta troops. Three were killed while 2 were injured and escaped. The car, the bombs, and 2 rustic shotguns were lost. (Myaelatt Athan)
The racist, militarist pro-junta fake monk U Wathawa is in Kantbalu township, Sagaing Region, threatening villagers that if each family doesn’t send a member to join the Pyu Saw Htee terrorist militia, their houses will be burned to the ground. His village audiences, whose attendance is coerced, appear to be mostly old people, the youth and fighting-age men having fled already. (Chindwin News Agency)
A junta soldier shot himself to death in Saw town, northern Magway Region yesterday. About 100 troops are holed up in their besieged compound in Saw under the command of an abusive Major, according to watermelon reports. Another soldier rebelled and threatened the Major recently and was killed by his colleagues. (Mizzima) Throughout the junta military, soldiers complain of abusive officers; the soldiers pass on the abusive behavior toward the citizens they encounter.
Junta troops shot and killed a 7-year-old boy by firing into a refugee camp in Mawlaik township of Sagaing Region yesterday, and a 6-year-old girl was killed by random junta mortar fire into civilian communities in Kyauktu township of Magway Region. Two civilians were kidnapped by junta troops in Htee Chaing township, and their murdered corpses were later dumped by a roadside. Troops shot 2 civilians riding a motorcycle yesterday, killing 1 of them. (Khit Thit Media, People’s Spring)
Urban warfare------------------
A junta government statistics office, used for preparing the regime’s fake election, was bombed by an urban PDF today in Kamayut township of Yangon. (Khit Thit Media)
In Monywa city, capital of Sagaing Region, a PDF fired locally-manufactured mortars into the Thasi prison last night, which is only a junta army camp at the moment. Damage isn’t known. (Mizzima)
