Burma coup resistance notes December 2, 2022
26 local forces join to attack junta river shipping; locally-manufactured mortars increasingly used against the junta; Karenni defense retakes a village.
A women’s commando force in Myinmu township carried out a grenade attack on a junta camp in a school grounds yesterday, wounding 3 troops. The troops returned fire and gave chase, but the commandos returned safely. They issued a warning that all junta-collaborationist government staff in the township will be considered targets, and should therefore join the Civil Disobedience Movement as quickly as possible for their safety. (People's Spring, Myaelatt Athan)
A major river battle took place in Salingyi township on Nov. 28-29. Six junta supply ships sailed up the Chindwin River and ran into a highly coordinated attack by 26 area PDF groups using aquatic mines, rocket-propelled grenades, and sniper fire. Three of the ships were driven onto sandbars where they ran aground. Three troops were killed initially and 9 wounded, who were off-loaded in Monywa. Later 10 more were killed, and more again in a rocket attack; about 20 dead in total. A video shows smoke plumes and water spouts as ships hit the mines, and fusillades of PDF gunfire from the shore. Ethnic regions-------------------
In Arakan State, the junta is using the Nov. 27 ceasefire to resupply its troops with food and weapons, and increase troop deployments. The Arakan Army had cut off many junta positions and was starving them out, but now they are refreshed. Meanwhile local residents feel no safer than before. (Ayeyarwaddy Times) The Arakan Army may also be using the ceasefire to prepare for renewed combat. This is a pattern that has played out previously in Kachin State, Karen State, and elsewhere.
Karen PDFs attacked a junta checkpoint in Palaw township of Beit-Tavoy District of Kawthoolei (Tanintharyi Region on Burmese maps) yesterday, leading to a 5-hour shoot-out, at the end of which the junta troops fled. There were deaths and injuries on the junta side, but the numbers aren’t given; the report just says the PDFs took over the position and burned the bodies. A weapon and some ammunition were captured. (Mizzima) Beit-Tavoy district is one of those areas where troop redeployments away to places like Arakan State have left the junta weaker.
In Karenni State, defense forces re-took a village in Demawso township from the junta, though the source doesn’t name the village. Defense soldiers are warning residents not to return due to landmines left by the junta to maim and kill civilians. (The Irrawaddy)
Karenni defense forces released their combat statistics for November: 43 junta troops killed in 28 battles, 2 civilians died and 34 were wounded, 2 Karenni soldiers were killed. The junta controls the center of Loikaw, the state capital, and is aggressive in eastern Loikaw township villages. The junta wants to recapture Loikaw town for its fake elections in 2023. Karenni forces are attacking dailiy in Hpruso and Demawso townships. (People's Spring)
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
About 30 troops and Pyu Saw Htee terrorists continued burning Sin In village in Shwebo township of Sagaing Region today, after beginning yesterday, and then moved on to attack Injinpyin, Baïjaïn, and Thapotdaw villages. There were confronted, however, but local PDFs defending the villages, and there was a firefight. There are junta casualties, but the numbers aren’t known. (People's Spring)
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
In Magway Region, about 50 junta/Pyu Saw Htee operatives came out of Pauk town again yesterday to try to repair the electric power lines sabotaged on Nov. 26 by local PDFs. The power lines supply 2 junta weapons factories, which have been brought to a halt. This was the 2nd attempt at repair after troops got shot up on Nov. 30 with 6 injuries. Again yesterday the PDFs were waiting with landmines, and subjected the junta to withering gunfire, causing an unknown number of casualties. The PDFs also captured some ammunition. (People's Spring)
In Myaing town, 10 troops were guarding an industrial water pipeline yesterday when 4 of them went shopping and got blown up by roadside bombs, killing 2. Elsewhere in Myaing township, a junta truck and 120 foot soldiers went on a resupply mission to 2 outlying junta camps yesterday. PDFs bombed and destroyed the truck. When more troops came to get the dead truck, more bombs exploded, killing 4 troops. Then the PDFs dropped drone bombs on the foot soldiers, of which the casualties aren’t known. A video shows the burning truck, the second set of bombs going off, and the drone bombing. (Myaelatt Athan)
In Sagaing Region, a PDF coalition fired 40 locally-manufactured mortars into a junta/Pyu Saw Htee camp at Tawpu village in Monywa township the night of Nov. 30-Dec. 1. They fired from several angles, causing a lot of damage, they say. The junta forces fired back, but the PDFs continued firing until they used up all of their shells. (People's Spring)
PDFs fired a barrage of 32 locally-manufactured mortars (60mm, 80mm, 120mm) into the junta admin offices in Salingyi town the night of Nov. 30-Dec. 1. Damage isn’t known. (Ayeyarwaddy Times)
In Mandalay Region, 3 PDF attacks on a junta convoy in Maddaya township on Nov. 30. First, a bombing at a bridge killed 2 troops and wounded about 25; two more attacks later in the day killed 12 more troops. The PDFs were able to capture some weapons and take back some goods that had been looted by the troops from private homes and shops. (People's Spring)
Urban warfare------------------
In Yangon, a grenade was hurled at a junta guard post in South Okalappa township yesterday; 4 guards were in there, but casualties aren’t known. A 2nd planned explosion was called off due to the presence of civilians. (Mizzima) Explosions also took place last night in South Dagon and Kamayut townships. (Khit Thit Media)
