Burma coup resistance notes December 24, 2022
Losing militarily, the junta turns its firepower on civilian soft targets
Ethnic regions-------------------
The latest battle in Mongko, in the Kokang area in northeast Shan State has apparently ended in defeat for the junta. The 80 troops who attacked the Kokang army camp withdrew yesterday after suffering casualties and losing weapons. Since the junta removed their dead this time, the number of dead and injured isn’t known; the Kokang suffered a fatality and an injury. (Myanmar Now) This comes about a week after another failed junta invasion of the Ta’ang ethnic area in Namsan township, further west in Shan State.
The Kachin army fired mortars at junta troops hiding in bunkers at Masotyan prison in Hpakant township last night; no results are available yet. (People's Spring)
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
Junta troops used drones to drop bombs into Nyaung Karyar civilian village in Myaung township of Sagaing Region yesterday, killing a 4-year-old child. (The Irrawaddy) Three children were injured by junta mortar fire in Depayin township. (Myaelatt Athan)

In Tantse township junta terrorists burned Palanchaing, Ngadan, Shwehlan, Kalazin, Ywabuji, and Jotayn villages (6 villages) between Dec. 19 and Dec. 22. (Khit Thit Media)
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
A battle occurred yesterday and today in Paungkwe village of Magway Region after a terrorist gang of about 100 junta/Pyu Saw Htee operatives invaded. Area PDFs fired locally-manufactured mortars and dropped drone bombs on the terrorists, killing 5 and wounding 11 over the 2 days; 2 PDF soldiers were also killed. The PDFs lost some cars and motorcycles. Terrorist propaganda says the PDFs also lost 16 locally-made mortar launchers and a bunch of improvised mortar shells and 2 guns, but the source is not reliable. The terrorists then burned nearby Taung village, and a paralyzed man who couldn’t flee was burned alive in his house. Then they returned to Paungkwe and murdered 4 local mentally ill civilians, one by beheading and 3 by torture and shooting. (Myaelatt Athan, Khit Thit Media)
Another battle happened yesterday at Chapthin village in Kantbalu township, Sagaing Region, when PDFs attacked a junta/Pyu Saw Htee camp that regularly assaults surrounding villages. The PDFs used locally-manufactured mortars and then attacked the camp on foot. Estimates of junta casualties range from 5 to 10, including a camptain killed, while a PDF soldier who is normally a teacher was killed and 2 were wounded. (Myaelatt Athan)
Bago Region PDFs announced that they have fought 11 battles with junta troops in the Taungoo area since Dec. 15 and killed at least 20 troops including a Major. They also captured a machine gun, assault rifles, mortar rounds, grenades, and various ammunition. Three PDF soldiers died and one was seriously wounded. (People's Spring)
In Yetasei in Bago Region a local junta administrator has been leading pro-junta marches, made up of collaborationist junta government staff. Early this morning a bomb exploded near one of these marches, though not causing casualties among the civilian collaborationists. Local administrators have been permitting illegal gambling and drug dealing as a means of distracting people from the political situation; they also take a cut from these illegal operations. (Myaelatt Athan)
In Chaung Oo township today a PDF dropped drone bombs into a police barracks in Amyint Myo Haung, killing 2 junta police. A Russian-supplied helicopter gunship then came and fired on the civilian community, causing the entire population to flee, and witnesses say junta troops are coming toward the place. (Khit Thit Media)
Yesterday a PDF drone-bombed a junta supply boat ascending the Irrawaddy River alongside Mattaya township in Mandalay Region, killing a soldier and wounding 5 others, 3 of them critically. In response, the junta destroyed many civilian boats moored along the banks, and thousands of people are fleeing riverside villages in anticipation of new junta terror attacks. (People's Spring)

A PDF in Nyaung Oo township ot Mandalay Region broke into a junta electric company office and confiscated an Uzi machine gun and some communication equipment. (Khit Thit Media)
Urban warfare------------------
In Yangon, junta operatives set off a bomb in a holiday market in Tamwe township last night, injuring two people, as part of a propaganda ploy to blame PDFs. Everyone knows, however, that PDFs don’t bomb civilians, and that this could only be done by the junta. (People's Spring) Last week the junta set off another bomb on a passenger ferry in Yangon, wounding 17 civilians, then blamed PDFs.
The junta has ordered Christmas decorations to be hung on malls and near large churches in Yangon in an effort to simulate normal life; however, there is no activity there, as citizens live in constant fear of junta repression. (Myanmar Now)

Political and economic-------------------
USA President Joe Biden has signed into law the NDAA legislation that programs civilian aid to Burma’s National Unity Government, ethnic homeland governments, and People’s Defense Forces. The specific types of aid to be provided remain to be determined between the American and Burmese governments. (Khit Thit Media)
Thailand yesterday hosted a meeting of Southeast Asia’s military dictatorships, including the illegal Burma regime, to discuss the Burma crisis. The foreign ministers of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, as well as a representative of ASEAN, met with the Burma junta’s representative to discuss humanitarian aid and an “exit strategy” to Burma’s crisis, and the possibility (none) of the junta’s adherence to ASEAN’s very weak 5-point plan, which would still in no way satisfy Burma’s democratic opposition. (The Irrawaddy) Since the National Unity Government was not invited to the meeting, the meeting has no relevance whatsoever, but it shows that the Thai government is still supporting the terrorist regime in Naypyitaw.
