Burma coup resistance notes January 14, 2023
Spring Revolution determined to thwart sham election; junta gives up territory it can no longer defend.
In another sign of the junta’s shrinking control of the country, troops pulled out of a police barracks in Thajetdaw, Launglone township, near Dawei last night. Before leaving, they destroyed bunkers and painted over the police insignia in the front. A local PDF found the barracks empty today. (People's Spring) This is a repeat of other withdrawals from areas the junta no longer has the manpower to defend.
Ethnic regions-------------------
Also in Doo Tha Htoo District of Kawthoolei, on Jan. 12, a PDF used drones to drop 40mm and 60mm bombs on junta camps at Pinnetaw, Winpa, and Wiyaw in Bilin township. Injuries are reported but the number isn’t known. In Kyaikto township last night a PDF assassinated a local junta administrator and informant, who had been investigating resistance activists and reporting them to the junta. (Khit Thit Media)
In Kler Lwi Htoo District of Kawthoolei (Kyaukgyi township on Burmese maps), an unknown resistance group detonated a bomb on a bridge yesterday where a junta crew was working to repair sabotage damage from Jan. 9. Unfortunately the bombing wet wrong and killed 3 local passers-by and injured 4, instead of the junta crew. (Myaelatt Athan)
Another junta soldier recently defected to the Chin defense forces with full weapons and an ammunition supply, in Zophei. He received a cash reward. He defected on Jan. 6 and has now reached safety. (The 74 Media) In Titain town in Chin State, the sound of an explosion this morning spooked junta troops, who then began shooting their guns and mortars in random directions. A civilian riding a motorcycle was wounded, and homes were damaged. (Mizzima)

Two days ago Jan. 12 about 70 junta troops assaulted and completely burned Paungkadah and Kaing villages in Salingyi township. Then a PDF coalition counter-attacked, killing at least 10 terrorists. (Than Lwin Khet News) After that, junta troops surprised another PDF that was preparing to lay landmines; the PDF soldiers all escaped, but they lost 2 cars, a motorcycle, and a bunch of locally-manufactured weapons. (The Irrawaddy)
About 20 Pyu Saw Htee terrorists murdered a family of 8 people in Kantbalu township of Sagaing Region this morning. The dead include children 5 and 12 years old and an elderly couple. One of the family members was an activist of the majority NLD party during the 2020 election before the illegal coup d'état. (Mizzima)
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
PDFs from Shwebo and Ye Oo ambushed a column of 200 junta terrorists early this morning, starting with landmines and following with gunfire for nearly an hour. They say at least 30 junta troops were killed. The troops had gone out to burn villages and the PDFs aimed to stop them. (Myaelatt Athan)
A PDF in Ayadaw township of Sagaing Region drone-bombed a junta checkpoint there yesterday, killing 2 troops and wounding 3. (Myaelatt Athan)
A PDF fired locally-manufactured rockets into a Pyu Saw Htee terrorist camp at Wetpote village of Myaing township, Magway Region yesterday for 20 minutes, killing 3 of them and destroying one of their homes. The terrorists in that camp have destroyed the surrounding villages. (Ayeyarwaddy Times)

Sham election------------------
A local PDF in Doo Tha Htoo District of Kawthoolei (Thaton township on Burmese maps) assassinated a junta village administrator and a clerk yesterday who were forcibly gathering data on the citizens of Taungson village for the fake election. Likewise, Chin defense forces shot 5 junta police who were collecting census data in Hakha town yesterday for the fake election; 2 died and 3 are wounded. A junta operative was killed in Nwatoji town in Magway Region yesterday for preparing the fake election. (Khit Thit Media) Most ethnic homeland governments have outlawed any activities related to the junta’s fake election in their jurisdictions. These census surveys are thus illegal.
An urban PDF in Monywa city, capital of Sagaing Region, conducted a drive-by shooting of junta police conducting a census survey for the fake election yesterday. Witnesses say 2 police were killed. The PDF says census-takers are warned. (Khit Thit Media)
