Burma coup resistance notes January 15, 2023
Fierce fighting in Kokang & Chin lands; Interpol rejects terrorist regime's labeling of People's Defense Forces as "terrorist".
Ethnic regions-------------------
The junta bombed its own gathering in Karenni State today. The Karenni State Day celebration at city hall in Loikaw city was organized by the junta itself. At least 8 bombs exploded, including mortar shells and drone bombs, wounding at least 2 ceremony participants. After the bombing began, the troops refused to allow people to leave the hall, which caused a riot. Jets also flew over and dropped bombs and ground troops fired mortars into civilian areas of Loikaw and Demawso, killing at least 1 person. (Kantarawaddy Times, People's Spring, Khit Thit Media)
The Kokang army (MNDAA) fought a fierce battle against junta troops 2 days ago Jan. 13 near Theinni, between Lashio town and the Kokang heartland. Then yesterday they fought again for 90 minutes. Over 30 junta troops were killed, and ambulances evacuated a large number of wounded junta troops. The Kokang lost one soldier killed and 4 wounded. (People's Spring)
In Chin State, a column of 100 junta troops invaded Matupi township this morning, leading to an intense battle in which at least 4 troops were killed. Karen forces in Mutraw District of Kawthoolei (Hpapun township on Burmese maps) continue to drone-bomb junta camps, especially Mae Wai camp that has been devastated by the drones. The Karen have dropped over 1,000 drone bombs on the junta in Mutraw during January, and only junta air strikes prevent them from capturing the camp. (Mizzima) It seems to be only a matter of time though.
Two local junta-imposed administrators were shot and killed in Kawthoolei yesterday. One was in Kyaikto township, where a junta informant was killed the previous day. He had only been on the job for 5 months after his predecessor was killed. The other was in Kaw T’Ree township (Kawkareik on Burmese maps).
