Burma coup resistance notes January 6, 2023
After trying to exterminate the people, the junta now wants to use them for its sham election; but the attacks continue.
Ethnic regions-------------------
Low-intensity conflict continues in Chin State; yesterday junta jets bombarded a Chin defense force camp near Htantalan town, after Chin snipers killed a few junta troops recently. Troops also fired mortars from Hakha town. The bombs damaged some hillsides. (People's Spring)
Helicopter gunships from Mawlamyaing in Mon State passed over Hpa-an town today, indicating that a battle is probably taking place in Mutraw District of Kawthoolei (Hpapun township on Burmese maps). (Hpa-an News) The Kawthoolei government (KNU) usually delays news releases for a couple of days to avoid compromising its military operations.
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
A junta terrorist gang of 100 troops is firing mortars and burning Paungmadah and Bingah villages in Salingyi township this afternoon. About 10,000 residents have had to flee into the bush with only what they could grab at short notice. (Khit Thit Media)
In Sagaing township today, troops shot and killed a senior monk in Depayingwe village, and also 2 PDF soldiers and a local woman, who had a chemistry degree and was sheltering in the temple. Troops shot her in the head, and they beat and tortured others. Local PDFs couldn’t manage to mount a defense, and the troops burned the village down. (People's Spring)
A PDF fired locally-manufactured mortars and rifles at junta/Pyu Saw Htee terrorists who have been forcing people in Yaw village at gunpoint to attend Pyu Saw Htee training. The troops and Pyu Saw Htee rounded up all the village adults, stole their cell phones to keep them incommunicado, and made them give up their normal activities and instead take terrorist training. Yesterday’s PDF attack in Kantbalu township, Sagaing Region killed 3 of the trainers. (Myaelatt Athan)
Fifty troops marched out from Kalay town yesterday to Sakkan village and burned houses. (People's Spring)
Troops who destroyed villages, killed residents, and chased people away to live as refugees, are now distributing pamphlets and using loudspeakers to ask villagers to come back so they can be registered for the fake election. They are being met with universal mistrust. (Mizzima)
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
PDFs staged a provocation attack on a police barracks and then ambushed the reinforcements. Two nights ago Jan. 4 PDFs opened fire on a police barracks at Chaungji, Thabeikjin township, Mandalay Region, killing 3 junta troops and wounding 5. Reinforcements came in 2 vehicles, but were blown up by 6 roadside bombs along the way, which killed 3 more troops. (Khit Thit Media)
PDF forces counter-attacked the 140 Pyu Saw Htee terrorists who burned down Jundaw Kone village in Tantse township yesterday, using landmines, locally-manufactured mortars, and gunfire as the Pyu Saw Htee came out of Jundaw Kone. The number of PST deaths and injuries isn’t known, but ambulances came to remove them. (People's Spring)
PDFs in Palay township fired locally-manufactured mortars of various calibers into the police barracks in Palay town last night, damaging buildings. The human casualties aren’t known. (Mizzima) Once again, the PDFs are coming in from the countryside and hitting the junta at its strongest points, the towns.
A PDF in Minkin township, Sagaing Region ambushed a junta patrol in Tanmankin village 2 nights ago Jan. 4, killing 2 troops with roadside bombs, then exchanging fire for 30 minutes. (Mizzima)
PDFs shot locally-manufactured mortars and sniper fire into a junta/Pyu Saw Htee camp at Jwepon village, Sagaing township yesterday. The sniper fire killed 2 junta troops, according to watermelon intel. (Myaelatt Athan)
Four junta troops at road checkpoings were killed in 2 attacks yesterday and the previous day in Myaing township of Magway Region. One was a lightning shooting attack yesterday, the other a series of drone bombs on a checkpoing on Jan. 4. Two troops died in each instance. (Khit Thit Media)
A PDF assassinated a couple in Thanbo, Ngazun township, Mandalay Region yesterday because they had been starting to recruit a pro-junta Pyu Saw Htee squad and suppress PDF activity by inviting junta troops to the community. (Ayeyarwaddy Times)
Urban warfare------------------
In Yangon, residents of some wards report a sharp sudden rise in street crime after the junta released 7,000 prisoners, most of them common criminals. Most political prisoners remain in arbitrary detention. (People's Spring)
As 15 junta troops were conducting police-state inspection and control of civilians at a road roundabout in Monywa city yesterday, 7 soldiers from an urban PDF shot 4 of the junta troops dead. (Khit Thit Media)
Political and economic-------------------
The National Unity Government and Revolutionary forces issued an appeal to the public not to participate in any preparations for the junta’s planned fake election. The National Unity Government is recruiting new battalions for its forces. (People's Spring
)After internal junta leaks disclosed the identities of the fighter pilots who kill civilians in ethnic minority areas, the regime gave them code names and moved them around to different airbases to try to ward off targeted attacks on them. Now another leak shows that the code names and base assignments have been changed again. Still another leak shows how the junta has been using the tags from regional meat labels to send coded information to avoid leaks. The junta has been utterly unable to stop watermelons from leaking sensitive information to the Revolution. (Khit Thit Media)
