Burma coup resistance notes November 8, 2022
PDFs wreak havoc with junta in Southeast; Karen army eliminated over 700 junta troops in October; more coordinated simultaneous actions by Sagain PDFs.
Ethnic regions-------------------
In Beit-Tavoy District of Kawthoolei (Tanintharyi Region on Burmese maps) PDFs have been on the offensive over the past 2 days in Myeik, Tanintharyi, and Bokpyin townships. Yesterday a PDF blew up a junta column with 6 roadside bombs near Mintayn village in Myeik township, then opened fire from jungle hideouts on both sides of the road, killing at leas 10 and wounding 5 troops. Then 3 vehicles heading south from Palaw toward Myeik were attacked with roadside bombs, disabling 2 of them and killing about 20 troops. The Myeik-Dawei road is closed indefinitely due to the ongoing fighting. (People's Spring)
The Nov. 6 PDF attack on the junta column in Bokpyin, reported yesterday, is now known to have killed 10 of them including the battalion commander, and wounded 20, which explains the captured weapons. (Khit Thit Media) The same day, a junta administrator was assassinated in Tanintharyi township, which was followed by a gun battle and junta mortar fire. Three junta troops were killed and 3 more wounded. Yesterday a Pyu Saw Htee terrorist leader was assassinated in Dawei town; he was a losing candidate for the pro-military USDP party in the 2020 elections. (Ayeyarwaddy Times)
In Doo Tha Htoo District of Kawthoolei (Kyaikto township on Burmese maps), unknown forces fired 40mm grenades into the Kyaikto junta police barracks yesterday, setting it ablaze. Troops responded by shooting their guns in all directions. This is the same area where a Resistance attack in October prompted troops to shoot dead several civilian pilgrims at the famous pagoda. Meanwhile in Bilin township the same day, 40mm grenades were fired at junta troops at a bridge checkpoint at Theinzayat. (Khit Thit Media)
The Kawthoolei government (KNU) published its combat statistics for the month of October: 286 clashes took place in all 7 brigades/districts, killing 369 junta/BGF troops and wounding 302; the Karen army and allied PDFs lost 6 soldiers killed and 46 wounded. Four junta soldiers defected to the Karen side, while 32 surrendered and were captured in battle. Two junta soldiers are known to have committed suicide and 2 others died of disease, according to inside sources. That’s a total known loss of 707 junta troops in Kawthoolei during October. Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
The junta celebrated the Tazaungdaing full moon holiday by firing mortars into Shaynmagah village in Wetlet township, Sagaing Region, killing a woman and wounding her 3-year-old child, her husband, and an old woman. (Khit Thit Media)
After a junta food supply boat was detained by PDFs yesterday in Myaung township, Sagaing Region, troops then burned down the nearby village of Nanwinkaing. (People's Spring)
In Myaing township of Magway Region, terrorist troops burned down Talain Ai village yesterday, and killed a citizen with mortar fire. (Khit Thit Media)
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
In Kathah township of Sagaing Region, a PDF drone-bombed a fleet of junta supply boats returning downriver from Shweku in Kachin State. Damage isn’t known. (People's Spring)
In Salingyi town, 2 PDF groups fired locally-manufactured 60mm, 80mm, and 120mm mortars into the town police barracks the night of Nov. 6, killing 3 junta police. The PDFs were unharmed by police return fire. (People's Spring)
In Monywa township, the multi-PDF counter-attack against a junta/Pyu Saw Htee terrorist gang in Tanlepin 2 days ago killed 17 junta troops, but 6 PDF soldiers were also killed, 2 were wounded, and 2 ran out of ammunition and were captured. (People's Spring) These last 2 must be counted as dead, since the junta kills its prisoners of war, often after torturing them.
In Khin Oo township yesterday, a multi-PDF coalition simultaneously attacked 3 junta positions using locally-manufactured mortars and gunfire for 90 minutes. At least 7 junta troops were killed in the coordinated attacks. (People's Spring)
In Pathein, Irrawaddy Region, a bomb explosion at the floating market 2 days ago Nov. 6 caused the junta’s sham Tazaungdaing holiday celebration to be canceled. (Khit Thit Media)
Urban warfare------------------
In Yangon, bombs exploded at junta admin offices last night in Sanchaung and Thaketa townships.
Political-------------------
The USA foreign minister Anthony Blinken issued a statement urging other countries not to lend any credibility to the Burma junta’s planned “sham elections”, and instead to support democracy in the country. He said nothing, however, about formally recognizing the National Unity Government, nor about material support to the democratic resistance movement trying to remove the illegal military regime.
