Burma coup resistance notes November 7, 2022
Ethnic regions-------------------
In Chin State, junta jets bombed a place today on the Hakha-Htantalan road where the junta has been trying to rebuild a bridge sabotaged by the Chin defense forces. Over 60 junta troops were killed there by the Chin in an unsuccessful attempt to re-open the road so that reinforcements could pass. Today’s bombing is described by the Chin as another response to failures on the ground. (Mizzima)
Last night an explosion occurred in front of the immigration office in Pa-an, the heavily-militarized, junta-occupied capital of Karen State, on the eve of dictator Min Aung Hlaing’s visit for Karen State Day. This is a celebration controlled by the Burma government rather than the Karen ethnic people. Usually it attracts crowds for the traditional Don dancing, food, fair, and other activities. This year it was heavily patrolled by military units on the lookout for resistance activity, with strictly limited access – and now the concern for bombing. Resistance and Karen groups advised the public to avoid the sham celebration. Attendance was muted and consisted only junta supporters, most of them not Karen people. (Salween Press, Khit Thit Media)
In Beit-Tavoy District of Kawthoolei (Tanintharyi Region on Burmese maps), a PDF in Bokpyin township attacked a column of 15 junta troops yesterday, blowing up and shooting most of them, and capturing weapons. However, 3 PDF soldiers were wounded, one critically. (People's Spring)
In Arakan State, urban guerrillas shot a junta official in a restaurant in the capital Sittwe last night; he later died in the hospital. (Khit Thit Media) Junta troops kidnapped the head of a blood donor organization in response to the shooting, though the connection isn’t clear. (Myaelatt Athan)
Junta army desertions------------------
A junta policeman went over the Karen army yesterday in Dooplaya District of Kawthoolei (Kyainseikgyi township on Burmese maps), bringing 2 guns, ammunition, and grenades. He was given the prescribed reward of 5 million kyats (about US$1,750). (Khit Thit Media) Only a minority of junta desertions are public defections to Revolutionary forces; the majority are assumed to be quiet individual departures to parts unknown.
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
Junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee terrorists stole farmers’ peanut crop in Thayetkwa village of Myaing township yesterday, harvesting the peanuts after driving everyone out of the village. A local PDF shot and killed the Pyu Saw Htee who was driving the tractor.
A PDF in Monywa township last night counter-attacked the junta/Pyu Saw Htee terrorists who were burning Tanlepin village (reported yesterday). The PDF fired 40mm grenades and rifles to retard the terrorists’ movement. (Myaelatt Athan) The troops seized villagers as hostages in Linpinwa village yesterday, and today, they burned Ma U Gyi village.
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
The CDSOM defense group in Myaung township briefly captured a junta food supply boat yesterday. The boat was carrying 15,000 bags of rice and some other supplies. The PDF was able to remove about 400 bags before junta reinforcements began to arrive. Those 400 bags were distributed to refugees from the junta violence. (People's Spring)
In Bago Region, a PDF in Yetashei township intercepted a junta column of 90 troops on Nov. 4 and fired on them for 4 hours, killing 12 troops and wounding others. The junta column then retreated. (People's Spring)
In Sagaing Region, PDFs in Myinmu town fired grenades at troops guarding the junta-owned Myanma Economic Bank yesterday, killing 3 of them. In Yinmapin township, a big junta wedding had to be converted to a small, secret ceremony after a PDF fired locally-manufactured mortars at its location. The groom is an army officer, the bride is a police officer of the junta. (Myaelatt Athan)
In Mandalay Region, a 4-vehicle convoy was blown up by 3 roadside bombs in Maddaya township as it was coming from Mandalay yesterday, causing the deaths of 9 junta troops so far, with some serious injuries that could result in more fatalities. One of the 4 vehicles was destroyed, another was disabled and then towed. (Khit Thit Media) A junta army Major was killed in Maddaya township today. (People's Spring)
Also, a bomb went off at a police station at Tampawaddy on the road from Sagaing, injuring 7 junta police and possibly killing 2; details are still unclear.
In Irrawaddy Region, the chief junta administrator in Bogalay township was assassinated by a local PDF. The junta responded by rounding up and kidnapping 15 unrelated people, including members of the majority NLD political party. (Mizzima)
Urban warfare------------------
Life in cities is getting increasingly dangerous due to uncontrolled crime. Murders, muggings, assaults, burglaries, rapes, and other crimes go uninvestigated and unpunished in cities, because the police are preoccupied with protecting themselves against Revolutionary forces, and are just as likely to perpetrate these crimes themselves. Revolutionary forces have not yet gained control in cities, so are not in a position to catch criminals, as they are in rural areas and small towns such as the Karenni town of Mobye, where Karenni forces caught 2 drug traffickers yesterday.
In Mandalay, urban guerrillas threw a bomb into a police station in Chanmyathasi township last night. An ambulance arrived later, suggesting that there were junta casualties. (People's Spring)
