Burma coup resistance notes November 2, 2022
Arakan & Karen ethnic armies inflict withering casualties on the junta; urban armed resistance battered but undaunted; overseas Burma citizens continue the financial pipeline to the Spring Revolution.

The Arakan Army provided a summation of its combat for the last week of October: 24 junta troops killed, 26 wounded, 26 rifles and dozens of mortar rounds captured; junta mortar fire killed 6 civilians and wounded at least 21; the fighting took place in Rathedaung, Buthidaung, Myaung Oo, Kyauktaw, and Maungdaw townships of Arakan State and Paletwa township of southern Chin State. The junta attacked civilian communities with mortar fire and air strikes. (Than Lwin Times)
Then yesterday Nov. 1, the Arakan Army detonated a string of roadside bombs beside a junta column of 30 troops in Thandwe township, killing 13 of them. The surviving troops responded by invading a nearby village and abducting some residents, though most fled. The troops also fired mortars randomly. (Khit Thit Media)
Karenni defense forces published their combat statistics for the whole month of October: In 32 clashes with junta forces, 28 junta troops were killed and 17 wounded, while 5 Karenni soldiers were killed; 3 civilians were killed and 13 wounded by junta mortar fire. In Dooplaya District of Kawthoolei (Kawkareik township on Burmese maps), the Karen army Lion commando battalion attacked junta troops in the mountains between Kaw T’Ree (Kawkareik) and Myawaddy yesterday, along the Asia Highway at Yankot. The Karen opened with drone bombs and followed with close combat; 24 junta troops and their BGF proxies are reported killed, and 1 Karen soldier was killed and 2 slightly wounded. The junta forces evacuated their wounded to Mae Sot in Thailand; the Thai government has helped the illegal Burmese military regime on multiple occasions. (Khit Thit Media, Myaelatt Athan)
In Beit-Tavoy District of Kawthoolei (Tanintharyi Region on Burmese maps), a PDF attacked a junta gate camp at Tonbyaw on the Myeik-Dawei road this morning, leading to an exchange of fire in which a Pyu Saw Htee terrorist leader was killed and 3 PDF soldiers were wounded; other casualties aren’t known at this point. Two mornings ago on Oct. 31 a PDF fired on a junta checkpoint at Maungmay Shaung in Dawei township. Rifle and grenade fire killed at least 2 troops. Then 4 vehicles of junta reinforcements arrived and hit 2 landmines; casualties from those explosions aren’t known. (Khit Thit Media)
In Kachin State, the battle of Longja Mountain continued today, as the junta shipped in 100 reinforcements (having lost more than 80 troops so far), and fired more mortar rounds at the Kachin army camp on the mountain. (Kachin News Group)
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
Troops set homes on fire in Jahke village of Htilin township, Magway Region yesterday, then left. Residents and PDFs were then able to save some of the houses by extinguishing the flames. The troops then invaded Pomyan village, but due to PDF firing, they withdrew to Htilin town for the night. (Khit Thit Media)

In Sagaing Region, a PDF attacked a junta/Pyu Saw Htee camp at Thaymathauk in Minkin township yesterday, killing 5 of the terrorists and capturing 3 junta rifles. Two PDF fighters were wounded. (Kachin News Group) In Depayin, a junta member was moving a landmine from one location to another when it exploded, sending the parts of his body in separate directions. The junta is planting mines in farm fields to kill farmers. Today on the Monywa-Chaung Oo road, a junta truck was going to clear roadside bombs, when it was blown up by a roadside bomb; casualties aren’t known. (People's Spring)
In Magway Region, 40 junta troops invaded a village in Myaing township yesterday; when a PDF moved in to defend the village, the troops seized some villagers as human shields. The PDF decided not to shoot and began retreating, when the troops shot 3 of them, killing 1 and wounding 2. They also killed one of the village hostages. (Myaelatt Athan) Similarly, 7 members of a PDF got the worst of a battle against 60 junta troops in Pauk township yesterday, losing 5 members captured, then killed in custody, while 4 troops were wounded. Meanwhile in Htilin township yesterday, another junta column of 100 troops was invading villages when it was attacked by the Yaw Defense Force PDF. Five junta troops including the battalion commander were killed. (Khit Thit Media) And in Salin township a PDF attacked a junta road checkpoint yesterday, causing 9 casualties – 2 killed & 7 seriously wounded. (Myaelatt Athan)
In Mandalay Region’s Sanku township, a PDF drone-bombed a junta police checkpoint 2 days ago Oct. 31 where officers were harassing pedestrians, killing 4 police and wounding others. Urban warfare------------------
Urban Resistance fighters have been particularly targeted by the junta, but the Than Lwin Times enumerated 20 junta personnel killed in Yangon during the month of October, mostly in shooting incidents, and 37 injured by bombs. Despite the junta’s strenuous efforts to control its strongest bastions, the Resistance there manages to remain dangerous to the regime.
Yesterday a Yangon PDF bombed a double target, a junta-owned Mytel communications tower located at a junta admin office in Dagon township. Another bomb went off in Mingaladon township, where the airport is.
In Mandalay, a junta police vehicle was bombed in Chanmyathasan township this morning, wounding 2 troops including an officer, both women. (People's Spring)
Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM)-------------------
Junta prison guards have been beating and torturing more than 20 political prisoners for mourning the murders by hanging of the four elected government leaders in July. (People's Spring) The Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP) says that over 12,800 prisoners of conscience are still in junta prisons, a quarter of whom are women, while over 2,400 civilians have been killed by the regime, including 742 who were murdered while in junta custody.
An on-line fundraiser by expatriate Burma citizens in Korea raised US$100,000 for the National Unity Government. (People's Spring)
