Burma coup resistance notes November 26, 2022
“I see [junta troops] as ghosts who have lost their human bodies and minds. When our people see them, they are more disgusted than afraid," - A resident of Kotaungbo district, Sagaing Region
Ethnic regions-------------------
Update on yesterday’s battle involving the northern Shan army SSPP: It happened because junta troops attacked Kone Thah village where ethnic Shan people were celebrating the Shan New Year, and where the SSPP was providing armed protection. The SSPP says 4 junta troops were wounded and an unknown number killed; the celebrations were spoiled when the villagers had to flee the junta violence. (People's Spring)
In Karenni State, junta troops attacking Demawso town from the direction of Loikaw were intercepted by Karenni defense forces last night. Ten junta troops died in the resulting battle. Karenni forces withdrew when troops in Loikaw fired heavy mortars. (Khit Thit Media)
In Dooplaya District of Kawthoolei (Kawkareik township on Burmese maps), junta troops ambushed and captured a Karen army supply truck yesterday, but 4 junta troops died in the attack. Three Karen soldiers received minor wounds and all escaped. (Mizzima) The junta army continues to pound it lost Thay Baw Bo camp area with mortars, missiles, and helicopter gunfire, attempting to recapture it from the Karen army Cobra battalion. (Myanmar Now)
In Beit-Tavoy District of Kawthoolei (Tanintharyi Region on Burmese maps) the Karen army Brigade 4 KNDO battalion and allied PDFs attacked a junta camp at Nantaung in Palaw township on Nov. 24. During a 2-hour battle one junta soldier was killed and 2 wounded. (People's Spring) Karen army Brigade 4 has had very little involvement in this war, leaving the fighting to PDFs.
A Launglone township PDF killed 4 Pyu Saw Htee operatives in a boat in Launglone Bay yesterday as they were transporting supplies from Dawei to junta troops on Launglone penninsula. The Pyu Saw Htee leader was the mother of a junta officer, and they also transported drugs and alcohol to Pyu Saw Htee terrorists in Launglone. A number of items were captured by the PDF. (Khit Thit Media)
The Kawthoolei government (KNU) reports that Beit-Tavoy District (or Brigade 4 area) has become a significant battleground recently, with 30 clashes during the first half of November, that killed 48 junta troops and wounded 26, while 2 Karen army soldiers died and 4 were wounded. (Salween Press)
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
Troops and Pyu Saw Htee terrorists fired on Nwamathin Ashay village in Ayadaw township of Sagaing Region yesterday, then entered the community and began looting houses of valuables, and stole or killed livestock. They then burned homes, burning to death an old woman. When they finished with Nwamathin village, they moved on to attack Ngwedwin village nearby, where they continued looting people’s belongings. (Myaelatt Athan)
Likewise in Kantbalu township, the destruction continues. Troops based in Kotaungbo go out repeatedly to area villages, ransack homes, steal valuables, food, livestock, and whatever they want. Then they load their loot into trucks and drive it away. Lastly, they burn the homes and kill any livestock they won’t steal, and plant landmines among the homes for civilians to step on and lose their limbs or their lives. The people are afraid to go home and step on mines. This morning the troops stole enough rice from homes to fill a truck in Chatkone village. The troops appear to receive no rations from the army, so they subsist by theft. (People's Spring)
About 200 junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee terrorists burned Supotchaung village in Htichaing township of Sagaing Region yesterday. Residents had to run into the nearby mountains and watch the flames of their homes from a distance. (Khit Thit Media)
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
PDFs blew up junta convoys yesterday in 5 separate bombings on the Monywa-Sagaing road 2 days ago Nov. 24. As 2 fuel tankers were passing, one was blown up and disabled by 4 bombs. Later, a 14-vehicle convoy was hit in 4 locations as it traveled, hitting 6 of the trucks and blowing one of them clean off the road. Six troops were killed in the 4 attacks; additionally, 5 troops who came out to repair one of the stricken vehicles were blown up and killed by landmines. (Khit Thit Media, People’s Spring)
Separately, another convoy of 4 trucks carrying jade ore from northern mines, accompanied by a patrol vehicle, were bombed on the Monywa-Mandalay highway yesterday. The last jade truck and the patrol vehicle were hit by 7 roadside bombs, causing 5 fatalities and 3 injuries. Three hours later, 2 junta trucks were blown up on the same road, killing 10 troops and wounding 20, according to a Monywa township PDF. Bodies were piled into another truck and the wounded were evacuated. (People's Spring)
In hard-suffering Khin Oo township, a local PDF counter-attacked a junta terrorist gang yesterday that had attacked Thayetpin and Thitkone villages; the PDF says it caused 15 fatalities or injuries. (Khit Thit Media)
In Salingyi town yesterday a PDF dropped 6 drone bombs on the township police barracks, targeting the bunkers. One junta soldier was killed and an unknown number wounded. (People's Spring) Then last night, PDFs using locally-manufactured mortars fired on 4 locations where junta troops are stationed, including the Salingyi police barracks again, the pro-junta political party HQ, and a township hall. The mortars ranged in size from 60mm to 80mm and 120mm. Spotters recorded a number of direct hits, but the PDFs were prevented from approaching by junta minefields, so casualties aren’t known. (Mizzima)
In Magway Region, a convoy of 4 vehicles and motorcycles was bombed yesterday in Myaing township, causing at least 7 injuries.
A terrorist column of 80 troops returning to Kyauktu town yesterday after attacking 3 villages overnight was ambushed by PDFs planting roadside bombs. Eleven troops were killed and others wounded. The PDF escaped unharmed. (Khit Thit Media)
In Mandalay Region, two local junta administrators from Sanku and Thabeitjin townships were assassinated yesterday by a local PDF, which also issued a warning for all other junta administrators in those two townships to leave within 5 days or face the same fate. (Ayeyarwaddy Times) Targeting local junta administrators and warning others to leave or resign is the means by which PDFs have eliminated junta administration and replaced it with their own in much of Sagaing and Magway Regions.
Urban warfare------------------
In Yangon, an urban PDF bombed a junta electric company office in North Dagon township yesterday, and someone set off an explosion in Kyauktada in downtown Yangon. A junta-owned bus company was bombed in South Okalappa township last night.
