Burma coup resistance notes October 25, 2022
International response to Burma regime atrocities: Verbal condemnation, but allow the killing to continue.
Ethnic regions-------------------
In Kachin State, the death toll from the junta jet bombing of the concert venue on Oct. 23 rose again; 58 mangled bodies were originally recovered from the concert site, including some of the performers; at least 22 more have died afterward from blood loss and lack of medical care. The junta’s prevention of over 100 injured people from going to hospitals will further increase fatalities over the coming days, as some of the injured need surgery and blood transfusions. (Khit Thit Media, Kachin News Group)
Fifteen ambassadors of Western countries in Burma signed a statement of condemnation of this bombing. None of these countries, however, pledged to do anything to prevent such civilian carnage in the future. (Khit Thit Media)
The junta followed up its massacre in Kachin State with heavy troop presence in Hpakant town today, where protests often take place, and firing mortar rounds at Wekha village nearby. (Kachin News Group) The junta arrested one of its own generals for the crime of blackening his Facebook profile, a sign of mourning for the Hpakant jet bombing victims; it accused him of being a watermelon (Revolution supporter within the junta army).
In southern Shan State, a number of Revolutionary groups held a congress over the past few days where they established a central committee to coordinate and accelerate the fight to oust the dictatorship. This is important because the main so-called ethnic army in southern Shan State, the RCSS, is more like a cartel running drug exports and other illegal business, and is politically aligned with the illegitimate military regime; it is not at all involved in the resistance movement. The new coordinated force promises greater anti-junta activity.
In northern Shan State, the Ta’ang and Kokang ethnic armies (TNLA and MNDAA, respectively) also expressed the determination to step up the fight against the junta in the wake of the Hpakant massacre. They are traditional allies of the Kachin army. (People's Spring)
In Karenni State, Karenni defense forces attacked 30 junta troops occupying the town police barracks in Hpruso yesterday; in a one-hour battle, one soldier from each side was killed. (Khit Thit Media) In Loikaw township, junta troops in Mobye fired mortars at civilian refugees living in a camp, hitting a hut where a shell killed a father, seriously wounded a mother in the head, and wounded an 8-year-old boy in the leg. There is also a baby. The mother later died also. (Kantarawaddy Times) A junta policeman was shot off his motorcycle in Loikaw town today while in civilian clothes, an indication that even the junta’s strongest bastion in Karenni State is permeated by local resistance fighters. (People's Spring)
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
In Sagaing Region, local PDFs detonated 8 roadside bombs on 3 junta trucks returning from destroying villages yesterday, disabling one of the trucks and killing 8 troops and wounding 10. A similar bombing targeted 3 other junta trucks on the Monywa-Mandalay road, but casualties in that case aren’t known. In Ayadaw township 2 soldiers were blown off their motorcycle by a package bomb, and one died.
In Tantse township a local PDF attacked a junta marching column yesterday, killing 3 troops.
Urban warfare------------------
In Yangon, urban guerrillas bombed junta admin offices in Mingaladon and Shwepyitha townships yesterday as well as a police station and a shop that re-sells motorcycles stolen by the junta, in Shwepyitha. Three junta administrators were badly wounded, possibly fatally. Two junta electric company offices were also bombed yesterday, in Kamayut and Mayangone townships. (Khit Thit Media) A shop owned by a couple of dalans was also blown up in Shwepyitha township, injuring them. (Mizzima)
In Monywa city, capital of Sagaing Region, urban PDFs fired 60mm mortars and rifles at a junta checkpoint at the city entrance, and another PDF drone-bombed an admin office.
Political-------------------
The National Unity Government again called on international allies to take concrete action to stop the war crimes and human rights atrocities of the Burma military regime, following the air raid massacre in Kachin State on Oct. 23. The international community however chose to allow the killing to continue, offering nothing more than its usual ineffectual statements of condemnation. (People's Spring)
