Burma coup resistance notes October 30, 2022
Ethnic regions-------------------
In Kachin State, junta jets bombed Monlaingket village near the Kachin capital Laiza yesterday, and troops fired mortars again at Longja Mountain where they have been attacking for a week. Junta mortar fire has so far killed 1 woman and wounded 5 other civilians in Momauk, one of them seriously. (Kachin News Group)
In Doo Tha Htoo District of Kawthoolei (Kyaikto township on Burmese maps), the public has almost stopped visiting the Kyaiktiyo pagoda after junta troops shot dead 3 tourists and wounded 13 others there on Oct. 12. So the junta is pressuring its administrative staff to go there. In the surrounding area troops are marauding and looking for PDFs, making the area a war zone. (People's Spring)
Junta army desertions------------------
Five more junta navy members have escaped from the Mawyawaddy naval HQ in Yephyu township, Mon State. They left while on guard duty in the middle of the night Oct. 27-28. Junta troops are furiously searching for them, as they searched unsuccessfully for the 12 who escaped from the same navy base in September. (Mizzima)
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
In the Oct. 27 battle of Tanpinkone in Htilin township of Magway Region, previously reported, junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee terrorists put their 30 dead, killed by PDFs, into 58 village houses and burned them, destroying much of the village. (Khit Thit Media)
Troops burned parts of 4 villages yesterday in Yesagyo township of Magway Region, a township that has already suffered many destroyed villages by junta troops. Yesterday in Myemahla, Zainthay, Thanpyachaung, and Kansatdaw, a total of over 230 family homes were torched. (People's Spring)
In Dawei township of Beit-Tavoy District of Kawthoolei (Tanintharyi Region on Burmese maps), the junta is conducting its local starvation strategy, restricting the transportation of food into the area for the past 3 months and causing food shortage. (Than Lwin Khet News) Like junta strategy in general, it attacks the civilian population in an effort to get at resistance forces.
Junta/Pyu Saw Htee terrorists have stolen at least 70 cattle from villagers in Kantbalu township of Sagaing Region, robbing families of part of their livelihoods.
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
PDFs stormed a junta police barracks yesterday in Nganthayauk town, Nyaung Oo township, Mandalay Region. Eleven police were killed including a commander, and the PDFs captured weapons. The vice-leader of the PDF was killed also. Police firing outward killed a civilian. The junta then sent troops in, but the PDFs were gone. Last night, a PDF assassinated 2 junta police who were partying at a karaoke bar in Nganmya, Nganzun township. (Khit Thit Media)
PDFs counter-attacked junta/Pyu Saw Htee terrorists yesterday who had left their camp at Inmati to go steal food from surrounding villages. The counter-attack happened at Mandaung village. The PDFs recovered some of the stolen food, but the number of junta casualties isn’t reported. (People's Spring)
In Magway Region, a PDF blew up a junta police barracks at Linzin in Salin township yesterday by sneaking inside and placing 2 large bombs that were later detonated remotely. Casualties aren’t known. (Myaelatt Athan)
In Irrawaddy Region, a junta administrator in Pathein town installed security cameras at his home for fear of being bombed. Last night his home was bombed. This administrator is accused of extortion and threatening behavior toward citizens and businesses. (Ayeyarwaddy Times)
Urban warfare------------------
In Yangon, urban PDFs set off bombs in Hlaing, Mayangone, and Hlaingthaya townships last night. Gunshots followed the explosions; troops usually shoot their guns randomly after bombings. (Khit Thit Media)
In Monywa city, capital of Sagaing Region, a watermelon tipped off a PDF about under-cover junta troops in civilian clothes at an industrial park today, so the PDF ambushed the 10 troops with a bomb, wounding and apparently killing 6 of them. (Myaelatt Athan) Also, a local junta administrator who was also a Pyu Saw Htee terrorist leader was assassinated yesterday in Monywa city. (Myaelatt Athan)
Diplimatic-------------------
While the regional bloc ASEAN has been basically worthless in addressing the human rights catastrophe in Burma, Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry yesterday announced that it proposed at Jakarta ASEAN meeting, just ended, that ASEAN recognize and deal with Burma’s National Unity Government. If this were ratified by the full organization, it would represent a significant diplomatic advance for the NUG. The USA foreign ministry has been advocating behind the scenes for ASEAN to take such steps. The rotating leadership of ASEAN just passed from Cambodia, a military dictatorship friendly to Burma’s illegal regime, to Indonesia, the region’s largest democracy and supportive of Burma’s pro-democracy movement.
