Burma coup resistance notes October 28, 2022
PDFs deal major casualties to the junta in 2 battles; Karen army kills local junta lackeys in Mutraw; helicopter raid on PDF camp runs into trouble.
A major 3-day battle in Sagaing Region’s Palay township concluded yesterday in a disaster for the junta. On Oct. 25 it landed 80 troops by helicopter to raid a PDF camp at Palampin, but the PDF had a tip-off and evacuated ahead of time. The PDF left behind 12 prisoners it had arrested, including common criminals and 2 junta police, who were then taken into custody by the junta troops. After the helicopter landing, the PDFs converged and fought the troops for 3 days, firing rocket-propelled grenades and causing many casualties. At one point the junta tried to send a column of reinforcements, but a PDF detachment fired on them and kept them away. As the troops retreated back toward Monywa yesterday, 30 of them were dead, and the PDFs are reporting that they also killed the 12 prisoners left behind by the PDFs. Eleven bodies were found today, including an 8th grade student and a PDF soldier. These 11 people had been tortured in junta captivity, then their throats were cut. There are also some unknown bodies in 6 village houses that were burned by the junta troops as they retreated. (Khit Thit Media, Myanmar Now)
Also yesterday, the Yaw Defense Force reports that it attacked a column of 120 junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee thugs that were attacking Tanpinkone village in Htilin township, as the troops were fording a stream, and killed 30 of them. Shooting went on for an hour. The troops were in plain view, so casualties could be counted, and some of the dead troops floated downstream. The troops managed to burn 75% of the village, but then the remaining 92 retreated to Htilin town. There were injuries on the PDF side as well. (Mizzima)
FYI This report is not a listing of every confrontation and casualty each day; that would be long and repetitive. This report aims to feature the most significant events, those that shape the overall outcome of the Revolution. Be aware that there are many more local clashes or attacks around the country, resulting in small numbers of casualties, that are not accounted for here.
Ethnic regions-------------------
In Kachin State, the battle of Longja Mountain in Momauk township continued for a 5th day yesterday. Junta casualties still aren’t known, but a platoon commander has been killed. Yesterday junta troops fired mortars into civilian homes, killing a 30-year-old woman.
In Mutraw District of Kawthoolei (Hpapun township on Burmese maps), junta-proxy BGF troops fired on Karen army troops yesterday near Baw Jo Lei village, prompting a battle. A Karen army source says they think there were 20 BGF casualties, but can only confirm 4 dead and 1 wounded, while 2 Karen soldiers were wounded. After the military confrontation, the BGF fired mortar shells into the nearby civilian community, killing a person and injuring another who had emerged too soon from their underground bunker. Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
Helicopters fired on Payimma village of Myaung township early this morning and dropped 70 troops that joined 50 arriving by road and together they stormed the village and set it on fire. As usual, the helicopter-borne attack was designed to trap residents before they could escape. The raid was targeted at a PDF camp; the PDF escaped in a hurry, but lost ammunition, mines, motorcycles, phones, food, and other equipment. (Myanmar Now) Two PDF fighters were injured as well as 6 civilians and an unknown number of junta troops. Residents are fleeing from 7 nearby villages. (People's Spring)

In Mandalay, a junta administrator in Patheingyi was assassinated yesterday; he had been threatening and extorting citizens there.
In Myitkyina city, capital of Kachin State, local PDFs fired on a junta crony business called UMG yesterday. The nature of the company and the damage done are not reported. (Khit Thit Media)
Junta military-------------------
Russian fighter pilots have arrived in Naypyitaw to train Burmese pilots to fly the new SU-30 attack jets sold to the junta by Russia. Given its growing weakness on the ground, the junta is relying increasingly on airstrikes, which usually target civilians. It is a new phase of the regime’s war against the country’s population.
