Karenni defense forces savaged a junta column of 100 troops yesterday as they approached Mobye yesterday in Pekhon township, Karenni region (southern Shan State on Burmese maps). During an all-day battle, the Karenni managed to kill nearly 20 junta troops and wound 12 (documented in photos), while suffering only 3 minor injuries themselves. They captured a quantity of junta weapons and ammunition, including 4 machine guns, 5 rifles, mortar rounds, grenades, bullets and magazines, and other equipment. Fighting is continuing today. (Ayeyarwaddy Times) As always when the junta forces are in trouble on the ground, it sent Russian supplied attack jets to carry out airstrikes. Two jets dropped bombs today in Mobye. On the Kachin State/Sagaing Region border, a PDF got advance information of a village invasion by 83 troops in Kathah township, and laid mines accordingly. In the resulting explosions 4 troops were killed and 5 wounded yesterday. (Mizzima) Meanwhile, a 4-vehicle convoy of 70 troops was bombed in Chipwi township of Kachin State yesterday, hitting one of the trucks and killing 4 troops. In Chin State, Chin defense forces fought junta troops today in Mindat township, and at least 3 junta troops have been killed. (Khit Thit Media)
In Kawthoolei Mutraw District (Hpapun township on Burmese maps), the father of two young men who joined the pro-junta BGF urged them to defect to the Karen army. When they refused, the father took their weapons and ammunition and gave them to the Karen army himself. The Karen army gave him the usual reward for these weapons, 4 million kyats (US$1000). In Mon State, a week after the junta inaugurated its new admin office in Ye township, it was bombed by a local PDF, and the junta administrator took refuge inside the nearby military command. The PDF warned that while this bomb was timed so no one was in the office, if the collaborationist staff continues working with the junta, the next bombing may not spare them. (Ayeyarwaddy Times) PDFs across the country aim to prevent the junta from exercising local administrative functions.
In Arakan State, the top junta police commander of Sittwe town, the state capital, was assassinated yesterday. (People's Spring)
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
Some of the 50 civilians kidnapped from Thayah Kone village in Shwegu township of Kachin State on Sept 6 have been released. They spoke of being tortured and kicked in the face with soldiers’ boots, and some have serious injuries from torture. (Kachin News Group)
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
In Mandalay Region, a battle took place today on an Irrawaddy River island in Maddaya township, after junta troops attacked Yelekyun village and a PDF responded in defense. Thirteen junta troops including a captain were killed, and 2 civilians were wounded by junta gunfire.
In Sagaing Region, a PDF coalition and the All Burma Student Defense Force militia attacked 70 junta troops at a fuel station outside Tamu town yesterday, killing 3 of them, while 1 PDF soldier was injured. In Magway Region, PDF in Kyauktu township blew up and killed 5 junta troops of 79 that were raiding and looting in Gyi village on Sept. 6. (Than Lwin Khet News)
In Bago Region, someone stole 2 rifles from junta police in Kyauktan, so the police rounded up a number of random local residents and kidnapped them.
Urban warfare------------------
In Yangon, junta targets were bombed last night in Insein and Mingaladon townships.
In Mandalay, urban guerrillas assassinated a junta border police officer in Chanmyathasi township yesterday and took his weapon. (Mizzima)
