In Kawthoolei Beit-Tavoy District (Tanintharyi Region on Burmese maps), fighting continued for a 3rd day near Pakari on the Dawei-Htee Khee road that leads to the Thailand border. Local PDFs have intercepted junta convoys coming from both directions, Dawei in the west and Myitta in the east. They say that nearly 30 junta troops have been killed in the past 3 days. In the nearby village of Kone Maw they kidnapped 10 civilians who had sought shelter in a Buddhist monastery, including women and children.
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
In Sagaing’s Myinmu township, a PDF fired grenades at the main police barracks in the main town last night, killing 1 soldier and seriously wounding 3. Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM)-------------------
A wave of suicides is underway in Burma due to the sharp deterioration in the economic situation as a result of the junta’s catastrophic mismanagement. Medicines cannot be imported and are running out; fuel is scarce; much employment has stopped; prices have increased over 100% while household incomes have dropped. A feeling of despair is widespread among the civilian population. People are jumping from bridges and taking poison. (Various sources)
