Burma coup resistance notes September 10, 2022
Significant victories for Karen and Karenni forces against the junta, as well as heavy casualties inflicted by People's Defense Forces in Sagaing Region
Ethnic regions-------------------
The Karen army Cobra Column captured six junta troops including a captain yesterday on the Myawaddy-Waw Lay road in Kawthoolei Dooplaya District (Myawaddy township on Burmese maps). This captain is known in his army as a bully, the kind of commander who makes troops want to defect, and a strong supporter of the coup. He is in Karen army custody now. In the same area 2 junta soldiers did defect to the Karen army yesterday. The Karen Cobras also captured weapons, ammunition, and a large quantity of supplies from the junta. This is another in a long string of junta defeats along the Myawaddy-Waw Lay road at the hands of the Karen army.
The situation is no better for the junta in Karenni State, where one battalion commander out of six in Hpruso township was killed and two seriously wounded by Karenni defense forces, leaving a structural gap; another battalion commander was removed for refusing to perform. A report speaks of many junta casualties, but doesn’t give figures. A photo shows 8 captured troops and a number of weapons and insignia from several officers. Two days ago Karenni defense forces killed nearly 20 junta troops further north in Mobye. (Khit Thit Media) The Mobye battle continued again today, with the junta firing from armored cars and conducting airstrikes, killing an 8-year-old boy and wounding a humanitarian worker. Reports say junta fatalities are over 30 now, with some injuries also among Karenni forces and civilians. (Than Lwin Khet News)
The People’s Karenni Protection Force published estimates of 7,500 junta troops in Karenni State and over 15,000 Karenni fighters. However, many of the Karenni lack weapons, so the PKPF is appealing to the public for contributions in order to finish off the junta invasion. (People's Spring)
In Arakan State, fighting continues between the Arakan Army and the junta, with the junta bombing with jets and firing mortars that fall inside Bangladesh. The Burma junta ambassador has been summoned by the Bangladesh government 3 times so far regarding the bombing of Bengali territory.
Junta scorched earth village terrorism campaign---------------
Last night 40 junta troops fired mortars into Putline civilian village in Wetlet township of Sagaing Region, setting homes on fire and killing someone. As the troops were returning to Shwebo township a local PDF detonated a roadside bomb. (Khit Thit Media)
Yesterday the troops were in Chaungsone village of Shwebo township, attacking by helicopter and trapping the residents inside the village. An unknown number of them have been killed and wounded. (Mizzima)
In Gangaw township of Magway Region yesterday, junta troops opened fire on the farming community of Myinza with mortars, then entered shooting their guns, and torched the homes. Over 8,000 from Myinza and other destroyed communities are living rough as refugees in the surrounding bush. (Mizzima)
People’s Defense Forces (PDFs)-----------------
In Sagaing Region, a PDF in Monywa township captured and arrested a junta prison warden yesterday as he was traveling to a new prison under construction. He is now a prisoner. In Khin Oo township yesterday a PDF drone-bombed a junta camp, killing 5 and wounding at least 4 troops, while another PDF in Shwebo township drone-bombed marching troops, killing 3 and wounding several others. PDFs blew up 2 trucks in a 13-vehicle junta convoy yesterday in Myinmu township on the Monywa-Sagaing road, killing 12 soldiers. According to inside information from a watermelon (junta army Revolution sympathizer), more than 30 bodies of junta troops from two days of roadside bombs and landmines were cremated. Urban warfare------------------
In Mandalay, a junta police commander was assassinated by an urban PDF in Amarapura township yesterday, and a women’s PDF assassinated a local junta administrator in the same township.
